Hurom Easy Clean Slow Juicer Review & Citrus Sunrise Juice Recipe

I go through periods when I juice fresh fruits and vegetables every morning. These periods last a few days, maybe a week or two. When I stop juicing for a time, it's not because I get tired of the fresh juice. I love to start my day with a glass of liquid sunshine - a nourishing blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

What I grow tired of is cleaning my juicer - dismantling tricky machine parts and scrubbing the fruit and vegetable fibre off the silver mesh cone of my juicer. For this reason, I jumped at the chance to review Hurom's H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer. Was it possible a juicer could actually be easy to clean? Let's find out if this is the best juicer for those (like me) who are loathe to spend a bunch of time doing dishes after juicing...

How Hurom's H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer differs from other juicers

Hurom's user feedback showed that consumers wanted a juicer that was easier to clean. In response, Hurom changed their juicing mechanism, eliminating small strainer holes and using grooved strainers instead. The new strainers have large, elongated grooves - to clean them, you simply separate the parts and rinse away juice and pulp. Hurom also created a tilted chamber and juice outlet, with a 3-degree tilt, which means the juice pours out more easily and you're left with less mess inside the juicer.

Hurom Easy Clean Slow Juicer Features

  • Hurom has designed their juicers to minimize the breakdown and oxidation of fruits and vegetables so that the juice holds onto more nutrients and has a fresh, natural taste.
  • With patented slow squeeze technology, the H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer rotates at a speed of 43 revolutions per minute. This mimics the motion of hand-squeezing fresh juice and helps to preserve the natural goodness of fruits and vegetables.
  • The pulp outlet opens 180 degrees so you can flush out any remaining pulp inside the chamber.

  • The H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer comes with a fine and coarse strainer that allow you to control the amount of pulp to suit your taste.
  • It also comes with an easy clean smoothie strainer (orange part in the photo above) and an ice cream strainer (bottom right in the photo).
  • A low-speed auger (bottom left of photo) squeezes every drop of juice, resulting in bone-dry pulp. The juicer has no blades or sharp parts.
  • The juicer has an impact resistant ABS plastic body.
  • The heavy-duty strainer and auger are eight times stronger than traditional plastics.
  • The H101 handles fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts and soybeans to create nutritious cold-pressed juices, smoothies and nut milks.
  • The quiet, AC motor uses just 150 watts of power. (I actually enjoy the sound of this juicer at work - it sounds like a giant munching on celery.)
  • For safety, the unit operates only if the chamber is completely and accurately put together. A built-in cooling system with integrated heat vents prevents overheating.

With no blades or sharp parts and no mesh strainers, how does the Hurom Easy Clean Slow Juicer even work? Fortunately we can leave the science of it all to the product developers at Hurom. Just know that it does work - and very well. The pulp that comes out of the machine is quite dry so I'm confident the juicer is extruding all the juices that it can, thereby minimizing food waste. The resulting juice is bright, fresh and smooth. (You can run it through a strainer if you want really low-pulp juice, but I like a bit of pulp for fibre.)

Citrus Sunrise Juice Recipe

I thought I'd share with you one of the delicious fresh juice recipes I have been enjoying thanks to my Hurom Easy Clean Slow Juicer. For this fresh juice recipe, I juice an orange, half a grapefruit and a carrot. I call it Citrus Sunrise Juice because it's bright and colourful and, of course, contains citrus fruits. It's a great pick-me-up juice to start the day with, offering plenty of vitamin C, which is a water-soluble antioxidant and helps with immune function. And carrot juice is a good source of beta-carotene, a type of vitamin A.

This juice is fast and easy to make. Simply peel the citrus fruits, wash the carrot and trim off the ends and cut everything into 2-inch pieces to juice. Run through the juicer and voila, you have a refreshing juice that is best consumed right away for optimum freshness and nourishment. This recipe makes one glass of juice. Double the ingredients for two servings.

The best part of juicing with this slow juicer is opening the juice outlet and watching the fresh, colourful juice pour into the container. Then all there is left to do is enjoy your fresh juice creation...and wash the machine, of course.

Is the Hurom Easy Clean Slow Juicer easy to clean?

That brings me to the question, is the Hurom H101 Easy Clean Slow Juicer actually easy to clean? And the answer is, yes. There's never going to be no work involved, but Hurom has done the research to ensure this juicer is as easy to clean as possible. Simply separate the parts and rinse them under water. That being said, I err on the side of caution and fill up the sink with soapy water to thoroughly clean the parts for my next use. I have found that (even though a brush comes in the package) I haven't needed to scrub to get the strainers clean. (One time I thought that there were celery fibres caught in the elongated grooves of the strainer and then I realized I had neglected to take the two strainers apart, meaning the fibres were simply stuck between the two strainers! It's just a matter of getting to know the machine a little bit.)

All in all, I am definitely inclined to juice more regularly now, knowing that clean-up isn't a big issue.
