You might recall that we recently gave our principal bedroom a bit of a makeover. First, I shared The Before, Wallpaper & Painted Dresser here on the blog. Next I revealed our new king-size bed and mattress. But I was still looking for the right bedding - comfy, cozy sheets and a pretty and peaceful duvet cover. I turned to Canadian company QE Home | Quilts Etc, which is based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, to find the quality pieces that would complete our newly revitalized nesting spot.


As you can see, there was already a lot of pattern going on in the master bedroom, with the distinctive sketch floral wallpaper, the black and white curlicue lampshades and the grey and white drapery (which we would actually like to replace because we chose it before we started decorating in earnest).

Because of the various patterns, I wanted to limit the colours and keep the overall feel calm in that department. We limited the colour palette to black and white, plus blue/grey (in the dresser). I knew that I wanted the bedding to have some grey in it and possibly a hit of one bold colour.

I found what I wanted in QE Home's Carlingdale Laurel Collection, with their duvet cover and pillow shams. Laurel features smoky grey watercolour leaves with a slight hint of purple. The fabric is super smooth and luxurious feeling. It's actually a bamboo blend, which doesn't sound like it would be soft but truly is. The duvet cover reverses to a grey geometric print that's also really pretty.


The Laurel duvet cover would pair nicely with white, grey or purple sheets. I went with deep purple TENCEL® blend sheets. I think the purple is a stunning contrast to the soft white and grey duvet cover. If you like silky sheets, these are the sheets for you! TENCEL fibres come from the Eucalyptus tree and make for a fabric that's actually softer than silk. These sheets feel quite luxurious, perfect to tuck into after a long day. They are also cool to the touch and moisture-wicking, so it's harder for bacteria to grow on them. They are ideal for people with sensitive skin and people who get hot when they sleep.


That about wraps up our “mini” (but not-so-mini) master bedroom makeover! For now anyway. One day we'll move onto the drapery, the flooring and the seating at the other end of the room. But right now I just really want to crawl into our comfy bed with a cup of tea and a good book. Doesn't that sound so nice?
