I have amassed quite a collection of vintage dishes and barware. Most of it was given to me by my mom. She and Dad used to go to lots of auctions and flea markets. When they winterized the cottage and retired there several years back, they ended up with far too much stuff in a smaller home.
Mom feels more inclined to get rid of stuff if somebody in the family takes it. Since my siblings don't usually want anything, that leaves me. And I'm happy to take it. For the most part. The odd time I have taken an item or two just to get it out of my their house. Like these two pieces. With apologies to my mom, I'm afraid this vintage orange vase, above, just ain't my thing.
And I think my mom really likes this platter. Me, not so much. It is marked Prov Sace E.S. Germany. I did notice just today that it is a great size for holding my cellphone. And the cellphone hides a good portion of the picture. Ha ha.
Do you have any "ugly" items in your collection(s)?

Now that you mention it I have some very strange vintage stuff in my collections too (both from my MIL and from my Mom) and I keep them as remembrances now. Thanks for Vintage Bliss.

I do not want to consider them as collections, just stuff that passed down to us. Imagine the Golden Girls tv props: 1980s pastel sofa, side tables and pink lamps, thats what we have at the basement. Perhaps in another 10 yrs, they can be considered vintage or retro.
ReplyDeleteJoann, I have some items that could be considered ugly by some. LOL! But they hold memories of my grandparents or other relative so they are keepers. Thanks for the party!
ReplyDeleteMy husband brought to our household quite a few needle point pictures done by his mother.
ReplyDeleteYou might have guess there not quite my thing but we keep some for him because she made them.
Have a great week and thanks for the party.

Oh I have a lot of ugly stuff that I think is worth a lot of money! My Grandmother antiqued in Europe and I got a lot of her pieces. I don't like most of them but I am afraid to get rid of them because I don't know their value!
ReplyDeleteHi Jo, am I allowed to say I like both pieces you featured today! lol!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely are! And I'm sure my mom will appreciate it Janis. :) Jo
DeleteJoann: bring them back. I like them & my court cupboard is getting bare. The vase came from my mom & is or was very collectible.
ReplyDeleteAw, now I feel guilty, you bringing up Nana and all. I will bring them back. I'm glad you have some space. :)
DeleteThanks so much for hosting Joanne!
ReplyDeleteJo, I don't even recognize the vase or the platter. So when you give them back to Mom I am going to take them Ha Ha. I think they are really pretty.
ReplyDeleteLove you
I will leave you two to work that out. ;) Jo
DeleteI don't have enough room to keep ugly crap, and Mom is still holding on to the sentimental ugly stuff, but I can see it looming in my future, lol. Thanks for hosting the party.
ReplyDeleteHa! Ugly is so subjective... I usually like the ugly stuff because it has personality. Anything 'quaint' doesn't fly for me. All my Pyrex is avacado green and brown and might be ugly to some. I dig that vase, it's fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm into the avocado green and the brown too! :)
DeleteNo. Well yes I'm sure they're ugly to SOMEONE but not to me, I ditch 'em if I don't LOVE them. : ) that orange vase is AMAZING I'd love to have it! : )
