This Mother's Day, there will be breakfast in bed (I'm thinking blueberry pancakes - hint, hint), hot tea, lovely handmade gifts from my little beauties and, of course, books and magazines to browse. My fave thing to do on Mother's Day is to snuggle up in bed with a giant stack of reading material, like I did last Mother's Day. Nothing too heavy or deep - just stuff that's enjoyable to read and absorb.
In preparation, I picked up a couple of books from DK Canada's Mother's Day Boutique. When I was little, my grandmother taught me how to crochet. We made a zigzag afghan together and it was so much fun. But I didn't see her often over the years before her death and I lost my crocheting skills along the way. I'm hoping Crochet: The Complete Step-By-Step Guide will help me get them back. It's such a lovely book, with 101 inspiring projects for all skill levels.
I particularly love this fish and starfish garland. It's so pretty and bright. Of course, I don't have any babies in cribs anymore, but I figure we can work the concept into the house somehow. You can download a free PDF of a granny pillow project on DK's website.
I haven't bought a photography book since they were all about film photography. Remember those non-digital camera thingys? Anyway, I figured it was time for a fresh perspective. The Complete Photographer has tutorials in ten different genres — Portraits, Landscape and Nature, Fashion, Wildlife, Sport, Documentary, Events, Travel, Architecture and Fine Art.
It follows along with professional photographers to show you in step-by-step detail how an idea progresses from concept stage to final image. I'm no professional, but I enjoy reading about camera techniques, composition and lighting nevertheless.

What's your wish for Mother's Day?
