Thrifty Finds
I popped into the thrift store on my way to Costco yesterday, not expecting to find anything interesting. I hit the home section right away (as I always do). To my surprise and delight, I came away with a little stash of decorative items for my home for a grand total of $8.
I seem to be drawn to brown items - particularly pottery and wood. I guess I like the warm, cozy feel of them. But I like coloured decor items too. I guess I just like everything! And it shows in this house. I wish I was a dedicated collector of one type of thing like other people.
When decorating, I find it comes in handy to have items of various heights. This candle holder (which was made in India) certainly has enough height to add interest to a decorative vignette. It was $1.99.
I feel kind of bad. This minimalist brown wooden vase (carafe?) was the smallest in a set of three, but I didn't really like the way they looked together so I only bought the one. Is that bad?
I couldn't resist this Rustique Canada pottery mug for 99 cents. I just have to decide what to use it for (besides a mug obviously). Any ideas?
I was very excited to find this Luthje Denmark teak serving tray for just $2.99. I love how the three little glass dishes fit into it like a puzzle.
I am quite happy with my finds, especially since I didn't expect to find anything at all!
How about you? Any great finds recently?

Love the serving tray Jo.
ReplyDeleteLove Nancy
You have such a great eye for finding amazing items :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! You are very sweet! :)
DeleteHey, I just posted about brown Canada housewares too! A little treasure hunting is always fun, and I love what you came out with. The little brown jug would look great with an oversized bunch of flowers in it ... a posy. I don't think it's wrong to split up a set ... who would know? I hate it when the thrift store sells things as a set when there's maybe only one thing that I would want to buy from it. Wendy x
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of putting flowers in the pottery. It would be pretty.
DeleteThe thrift store was selling the pieces separately - part of the reason I didn't buy them all. In addition to looking kind of blah as a set, they went up in price as they got bigger! :)
Off to check out your post...
Wow ,love the Serving tray ,want also one!
ReplyDeleteGreat Haul!
Have a lovely Day xoxo
Thank you! Have a great day too! :)
DeleteI was surprised when you said the candlestick was made in India - my father and grandfather did woodturning, it looked just like maple which they used a lot - it's pretty though!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found something on your pop in, you never know.....
I see what you mean. I was kind of surprised it was from India too.
DeleteGreat finds, I especially like the serving tray. The colours are beautiful. I'm supposed to be dropping off stuff at the thrift store here but haven't had a chance to yet, now I'm inspired :P
ReplyDeleteDrop some off, pick even more up eh? That's how I do it. ;)
Deletei was struck by the comment that you wish you were a dedicated collector of specific things - and I wish I had such an eye like yours......the grass is always greener isn't it! Love the finds.....
ReplyDeleteThanks Anita! With your encouragement I'll keep on buying all kinds of stuff! ;)
DeleteWow, what great finds at a fantastic price!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth! I think under $10 is a good goal for me when hitting the thrift shops, considering how much stuff I already have. :)
DeleteI love that teak serving tray! My house has a lot of brown between floors and molding and I keep buying brown stuff for it too. I like color but its even turned into muted colors!
