Over the holidays, the kids asked if we could watch some family videos, particularly videos of them opening their presents during Christmases past. This walk down memory lane was a treat for all of us. I had forgotten just how much my son sounded like a little man at only three years old. He has always had a wisdom beyond his years. And it was remarkable to see my little blue-eyed girl's quiet determination as she pushed aside her older brother's outstretched arms and went about the business of exploring the world - a busy toddler on a mission.
Although I look back on those early years with fondness and sometimes longing, I am constantly reminded that each new stage in a child's life is a blessing. I get so much pleasure now from watching my son race down the basketball court or seeing my daughter perfect her hip hop skills. Their developing personalities are a constant delight (and sometimes a challenge). Whatever the ages and stages of your children, there is no joy that matches that of parenting.

That post kind of made me tear up - those days are even further away for me - next stage will be grandchildren, whenever that will be! Hah!!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine it gets even harder when they are away from home Jill. The grandchildren part should be fun though. You get to "borrow" them, cuddle them and send them home. ;)
