Recently, I was introduced to a new (free!) app that can help provide peace of mind to parents, students and anybody who works, travels or exercises alone. The React Mobile app turns your iPhone or Android smartphone into a security device, allowing you to send a quick SOS alert (including your GPS coordinates) to select emergency contacts.
The app is well suited for families - it can help parents keep track of their kids; it can benefit moms who jog or walk alone and dads who work on the road. It's also great for seniors (like those safety-conscious parents of mine).
How Does React Mobile Work?
For everyday use, React Mobile's “Follow-me” feature allows your friends and family to track you in real time. This is great for situations where you might feel uncertain and uncomfortable but don't have an immediate need to dial 911. It could be that you are meeting a new client for the first time in an unfamiliar place. You could be running at night. Maybe your teen is walking home alone. React Mobile allows for your trusted, self-selected contacts to track you in real time. You can simply touch the “I’m Safe” button to let your contacts know when you’ve arrived at your destination safely.
In emergencies, the React Mobile app turns your smartphone into a powerful safety tool and also allows users to report incidents and criminal activity. With the push of a button an SOS alert with a link to your GPS location gets sent to select emergency contacts via text message and email. Optionally users can choose to post an alert message to their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Users are automatically prompted to call 911 if they trigger an SOS alert. For users outside of North America, the app allows you to choose which country you are in. When an SOS alert is triggered, you will be prompted to dial the appropriate emergency authority.
About React Mobile
React Mobile co-founder Robb Monkman was inspired to create the safety app when he was the victim of a gunpoint home invasion in college several years ago. Looking for a way to increase on- and off-campus safety, Robb created a tool to silently and discreetly alert a wide network, including the authorities, of an emergency and its location. After lots of testing, the React Mobile safety app was launched in March 2013. React Mobile recently introduced a new custom branding service that allows organizations to have their very own branded security app to share with their members.
How To Download
I have installed the React Mobile app on my phone - which means anybody can do it! It was super quick and easy - and let's not forget free! Find out more by looking at this short overview video. Or visit React Mobile's website. Better yet, take a few moments to install this app now. While we all hope we'll never have to use the SOS feature, my mom always told me it's better to be prepared!

Joann, remember the alert device you and your sister reluctantly carried. You were supposed to activate it then toss it as far as you could. Technology has come a long way.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I remember that alarm! I really didn't want to carry that thing. ;)
DeleteCollen - I was just about to mention that safety device! My dad gave me one of those when I left home to go to university. I don't think I ever actually carried it though! That's why this app is so perfect, really. (Also, holy cow, the inventor was robbed at gunpoint? I can't imagine!). Thanks for letting me know about React Mobile. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI have been hearing a lot about this app lately. Initially, I thought it was stupid, but now I totally get it. If we have this technology, LETS USE IT!
ReplyDeleteI've been hearing more and more about REACT and it sounds like a must have app for everyone. I'm downloading this now.
ReplyDeleteI have React Mobile on my phone and would recommend it. The photo of your purse, keys and the app on your phone is quite dramatic and is a reminder to always be prepared in case of emergency.

Our daughter loves walking and even though she is no longer a child we still worry about her safety, especially in the evening. I am going to tell her about this app., it would be perfect for her!
