Insta-Friday in real life, "hug a vegan" day

Happy Friday and happy "Hug a Vegan" Day! If you don't know a vegan to hug, you can pledge free hugs online here. There's even an official t-shirt you can buy here

Remember, despite what you see on TV, vegans aren't strange and smelly. Well some of them are strange. But strange is good, right? To quote Adam Sandler in one of my favourite movies, Spanglish, "So between odd and the same, you gotta be rooting for odd, don't you?

I didn't do an Insta-Friday last week, so I'm sharing cell phone photos from the past two weeks now.

When I think of fall, I think of walks in the woods followed by snuggling up indoors with a cozy blanket, a book, some good music and a cup of tea with a warm baked good. I've been doing less of the walking and more of the baking. It was scones with a John Lennon album one day (top). An abundance of bananas called for vegan banana chocolate chip muffins another day.

Here's the finished product, briefly enjoyed with a cup of tea before family duties called once again.

I made vegan banana chocolate chip bread on another occasion. Always with the chocolate chips right? I'm out of control.

We had friends over on Saturday, and I made a pan of chocolate chunk squares. Chocolate chunks. See? I don't always have to have chocolate chips.

My suggestion for fall music? John Coltrane. Nothing better. A little Johnny Hartman thrown in doesn't hurt either. Put the fireplace on and enjoy with a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

Now you need a book. I am very excited about these DK books I just received. Jane Bull's books are a big hit in this house and I am looking forward to making one of her "Crafty Creatures." She also played a role in creating "Handmade Gifts." I always think it would be lovely to make Christmas gifts for people. Knowing me, I would need to start in January though.

We have still enjoyed a few summer-like days recently. My son had to make a kite for a school project and boy was that his type of homework. Of course Dad had to do most of the engineering, but the kids enjoyed flying the kite. And the boy was proud that his kite did well in the competition at school.

Jolene the beagle mix enjoyed watching the kite too. Well, she was probably actually hunting birds, but she had a good time regardless.

Are you doing any baking this fall? What does fall mean to you?

  2. Hugs to you! I have a few vegan friends, and although I think they're weird for shunning cheese, I still love them ;) I'm a big fan of your use of chocolate chips and chunks! And I just WISH it were cold enough here to get a fire in the fireplace.

    1. Thank you Ruthie. I eat eggs occasionally so I guess I only get half a hug. ;) Cheese is probably the hardest thing to give up, but I'm okay with it now. I still have my chocolate!

I'm not really wishing for the cold days, but we had a few where we could have used the fireplace. I think the air conditioner just turned on now though!

  3. Hugs to you and all vegans. Maybe we carnivores are strange and smelly! I can be both when I am out in 100 degree F trying to take care of my veggie beds. Linda@Wetcreek Blog

    1. Thank you Linda! You are funny. I think we would all be strange and smelly in that situation. ;)

  4. You do seem to have a little problem with the chips in all forms but it's a good problem, right? Love the kite! We might take ours out later, the wind lately has been nuts.
