Vintage Telephone Table

I am avoiding the thrift stores at the moment, seeing as I must be stopped from adding to my giant collection of dishes. I will be visiting my sister soon and she will no doubt drag me (kicking and screaming of course) to the nearest thrift stores.

In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share a look at our mid-century telephone table. My husband and I bought this from a friend many years ago before we had a house or any idea of what our interior decorating would look like.

As much as I love fifties-style decorating, it just doesn't work in our home. So, this little guy lives in the basement along with other pieces that don't quite fit upstairs. We have trouble parting with things, whether they fit or not.

I still love the lines of this telephone table, along with the swivel chair and the mirrored table. All we need now is a vintage telephone!

Just kidding, we really don't. Really.

  1. Ah, the thrift store cleanse. Sigh. And totally get the table dilemma-- one of those pieces that makes one happy to look at & has a plethora of aesthetic virtues, but no practical place to be. We have a few of those too...not telephone tables, but the other bit...

    1. Soon I will have to open a shop. Only problem is, I'm incapable of letting anything go!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who holds onto impractical pieces. ;)

    1. Thanks! Well, I found a little spot for it and that's where it will stay for now. I had to clear a binder and some other stuff off of it to take the picture so I suspect my daughter's making use of the table. ;)

  3. I love it! I love 50s style. Right now I'm having a bit of a dilemma with decorating as my house was built in 1930 yet stuff of the 50s and 60s was a big part of my childhood, thanks to my grandparents! It's a bit tricky trying to get such different design to work nicely together, not to mention with all the modern stuff!

    1. Thanks! I know what you mean. It can be hard incorporating stuff from different time periods, but I do like a mix so much more than just all new stuff. The older stuff is what makes a room interesting. :)

  4. This would look great on a patio where someone could sit and put their drinks or a plate of food. Might not be too comfortable to sit in but it would look great!

  5. I've been downsizing my dishes since I moved and it was so hard! Still it's good to do once in awhile! Love the telephone table but it is a very special style isn't it! Thanks for sharing with us at TTF this week.

    1. I can imagine how hard it would be to choose items to get rid of! I have yet to do it. ;)

      Thanks for hosting!

  6. Whoa, I've never seen one like this! Have you ever seen a moon phone? That's what this needs! Google it, totally midcentury. It would be awesome. I don't mean to add to your pile, though, ha ha, my house is just as bad! Take care - Dawn

    1. That would be very cool! Maybe if I spot one while I'm out one day. You never know... ;)

I'm glad I'm not alone in my collection mania. :)

  9. I always think telephone tables look so neat! But, they take up a lot of space!!

I am so far behind on reading blogs after being away, I know there are some great posts that I'm going to miss!
