The Weekend
Our weekend has been very eventful. It actually began on Thursday evening when my mom and I took the kids to the Fallsview Casino Resort in Niagara Falls. I went to see comedian Russell Peters in the evening. As I have mentioned before, my mom gets the hotel stay and the event tickets for free because of her casino habit.
My son brought along a friend to celebrate his 11th birthday. We have yet to come up with a formal party idea.
Although we pretty much take the Falls for granted, we did pop down for a quick look.
The kids were more interested in the arcades and attractions on Clifton Hill. They pooled their game tickets and came away with a few little prizes. The girl got a pretty pink pencil case, while the boys decided on plastic hammers to beat each other with. You can't fight genetics.
We were back home by Friday evening, just in time to pack for our next trip the following day. Up before 6:00 a.m. on Saturday to head to a soccer tournament in Collingwood, Ontario.
We picked up this quick pop-up tent at Costco, and I highly recommend it. I got some much-needed shelter from the sun...
My little girl got some cozy space to play with friends.
We stayed Saturday night at the Holiday Inn Express. Nothing to write home about, but adequate. I'm very sure the one woman in the pool on Saturday night did not enjoy sharing it with an entire boys soccer team.
Today, we took a little tour of the nearby town of The Blue Mountains - specifically of the picturesque Blue Mountain Village. It's all about skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer. Those people who bike down the mountain must be a little crazy in my opinion. But then I don't even ski.
My son and I did walk up the mountain though. I made it to the top - wearing sandals and carrying a purse. Scaling a mountain wasn't factored into my packing unfortunately.
You can see the trail in this picture. It's higher than it looks. Thankfully you can ride the gondola down for free if you make it to the top.
The kids insisted on BeaverTails post-walk. They both chose the "Avalanche" version, with Skor bits.
On our way home, we stopped by a Georgian Bay beach. This was my first visit to the Collingwood area and I enjoyed the mix of mountain, village and lake.
Now we are home, exhausted and ignoring the laundry!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend. What was the highlight?

What lovely photos of a fine looking weekend :) Yep, I know the post-holiday laundry too well...
ReplyDeleteThanks doll! Laundry, dust balls floating down the hardwood floors, papers to be organized...it's all going to have to wait, because we have another busy week. :)
DeleteIsn't it fun to have a change of scene?? Unfortunately, I didn't!! But I am going to PEI in two weeks!
ReplyDeleteYes, it's nice to get away from the house. PEI sounds exciting! Are you driving?
DeleteSo jealous of you all popping around to Niagra Falls! So many busies!!
ReplyDeleteI know. We are so used to going there, but it really is incredible. :)
DeleteThat walk up the mountain sounds fun and the view is incredible. Niagra Falls is on my travel-bucket-list :-)
ReplyDeleteI am sure you would love it Keith! :)
DeleteMy goodness! I love the way you wryly described not factoring climbing a mountain into the equation! Beautiful places and faces!
ReplyDeleteThe highlight of my weekend was reading letters from old boyfriends. There's nothing like it!
Thank you. You are sweet.
DeleteThat sounds like fun. I have some high school letters my friends and I wrote to each other. I can't believe how naive we were. ;)
Sounds like an amazing week! The Blue Mountains are gorgeous and perfectly idyllic!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys are all having a great summer so far. I'm trying hard to get back into the groove after my own vacation. Take care!
