Insta-Friday in real life

It's Friday once again. If you're Canadian like me, it's time for a good, celebratory long weekend. It's "May two-four" people!

Some info for those of you not in Canada - "Victoria Day" is a public holiday observed on the Monday before May 25th. It celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th), but who really cares? It's a day off of work for most people. I believe we call it May "two-four" because many 24-packs of beer are consumed on this spring long weekend.

Whether you are opening up your cottage, starting your gardening for the year or just hanging out with friends enjoying the fireworks, I wish you a happy, safe long weekend.

And now for Insta-Friday, a look at the past week in cell phone pics. Last Sunday being Mother's Day, I spent Saturday tidying up. I wanted to enjoy my day-long stay in bed, pictured here, knowing that the house was looking good.  My daughter's room is one of the worst areas, so I tried to get her to clean it herself. Instead, I found she had created this "makeup area," above, while leaving the rest of the room in a mess.

In the meantime, I deep cleaned our master bathroom, removing all the toiletries and decorative items to give every single tile a good scrub. I don't know about you, but I am the slowest cleaner ever. I once had a summer job cleaning houses. It lasted about two weeks. They just stopped calling me in for shifts. I'm not kidding, I'm slow.

On Mother's Day, I settled in for breakfast in bed and some alone time. My kids had other plans, including this special on-the-bed dance performance.

That would be my son's feet and Jolene the dog's butt/tail on the right, perilously close to the ballerina.

I did a brief search for a photo of my mom and me to share on Instagram that day. I found lots of photos of me and my siblings with our dad, but none with Mom. Clearly Mom was the picture-taker in the family. I did find this identification card that she carried when she was a nurse in the Canadian Armed Forces in 1956. She hates when I share photos of her, but wasn't she lovely? And short. Just kidding, but at 5'8", she's the shortest in our family.

It actually friggin' snowed on Mother's Day...in May. I captured this view from the warmth of my bedroom.

I got many special treats that day. My daughter gave me a sweet necklace she made at school. Her fingerprint is imprinted in the clay.

When we were at Homesense shopping for my mom and mother-in-law a while back, I handed my daughter things to bring to her dad to give me on Mother's Day. I like a surprise as much as the next gal, but I also like to get what I want. I picked out this hanging jewelry organizer, above. I am more inclined to use my jewelry if I can see it easily.

I also handed her this owl mouse and mouse pad set, above, and a large scented pillar candle.

She added this pretty floral tea cup on her own. The kids also went with their dad to the health food store and came back with soaps, incense and chocolate bars (not shown and possibly already eaten). They were proud to give me things they knew I would like.

What kind of gift do you like to get?

Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. I think I look a bit like my dad too, but he hides all the photos of his younger days, so it's hard to know! ;)

I just discovered the mouse has a cord that's too short for my desktop computer! I will have to use it with the laptop. :(

      Have a wonderful weekend Ruthie!

  3. Great pics, I love the one of your mum :) Since reading about your decluttering/cleaning adventures I went out and borrowed the Organized Home decluttering book you blogged about, read it, then got inspired to thoroughly clean out the bathroom cupboards. I can't believe how many bottles of old scents, hair products and general nice-smelly things I got rid of (think untouched for six years...). Now I'm inspired to go scrub every tile!

    1. Thanks. :)

I am glad you had a read of that book. It's good isn't it? Motivating. Although I still have lots left undone.

One project at a time. ;)

  4. I like to have a clean house before a day of relaxation too ... when can you be here to clean mine?! Your mother must be a beautiful woman if she takes such a good "official" photo ... how nice that at 5'8" she's SHORT! I'm the shorty in my family. Enjoy the long weekend and please burn the snow picture!! Wendy

    1. I never really finished cleaning my house, never mind yours sweetheart. ;)

I thought the same thing about my mom's photo. That's an i.d. photo? Any photos I've had taken are horrible!!

      No more snow!!!

      Have a great weekend.

    1. I did Angie. And thanks to you I already have ideas for Father's Day. :)

I bet you I won't have to miss the mess in my girl's room. That likely lasts into the teenage years. ;)
