Insta-Friday in real life, Niagara Falls edition

Happy Friday! For those of you who had a spring break this week, I'm sorry the week has passed so quickly...because I'm quite sure it has.

As is generally my habit on Fridays, I am sharing a look at our cell phone photos from the past week. This week, they are mostly photos I shared on Instagram. You can follow me @ziajojo. I'll be sure to be nice and follow back.

My goal was to start off March Break with a clean house. I gathered the kids and husband for a quick family meeting on Saturday morning to enlist their help. I was treated to lots of groans and twisted faces, but they eventually did help...a bit.

Here's my clean dining room. A couple of people on Instagram admired the chandelier. I like it too. It was in our entryway growing up. My parents bought it at some point years ago when they used to attend auctions and flea markets regularly.

The large picture on the far wall is a John Hartman lithograph from the McMaster Museum of Art where my husband used to work.

My husband made a couple of bookshelves recently. Here's the first, above. He made that one for our record collection. He put it in the kids' end of the basement. That's why there's a box of Mr. Potato Head stuff on one shelf.

Here he is at work on the second one. Not sure what this one's for. I asked him if I could put magazines on it, because I have a magazine addiction and I actually don't throw any away. I call it research for my freelance writing. He eventually agreed I could have the bottom shelf. That will hold a small fraction of my magazines.

So, with the house cleaned (let's ignore the second floor, shall we?), we headed off to visit family...first we went to my sister-in-law's house. Then, it was on to meet my mom in Niagara Falls to put a dent in her casino comps.

We got two free nights at the Fallsview Casino Resort...in a beautiful suite. If you are ever looking for a hotel in Niagara Falls, I can honestly say that this hotel is always spotlessly clean and fresh looking. By the way, when you put the word "casino" in a blog post, it draws lots and lots of spam visits and comments. It has happened here before, but I'm risking it again.

This was the view from the (giant) bathroom.

Here is the view of the falls from the living room.

The view from the bedroom made me laugh.

We went to Passage to India restaurant for their delicious buffet.

The kids enjoyed the hotel's pool and hot tub.

I enjoyed watching them. There's something odd about wearing winter clothes next to a pool though.

Winter hasn't left us yet. When we woke up on the day we were leaving, this was our view. More snow. You have got to be kidding me.

I didn't even walk down to the falls. My husband did though, so I sent the cameras with him.

This Upside Down House in Niagara Falls is a curious sight. We didn't go in because I'm cheap like that.

We stopped at my sister's house on the way home. On the agenda was thrift store shopping. That girl can shop. Here she is with my little one (who is also her goddaughter).

Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. Looks like a good time was had by all at the Falls. I've never visited the Falls in the winter, but would love to see it in person ... one day. I used to live a lot closer to them, but now it just seems such an ordeal to drive all that way. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is too cheap to pay to go in these silly tourist traps. Your husband definitely needs to build you an entire bookcase just for you, not just give one shelf, that was mean >:[ Well have a nice weekend Jo, soon back to the same ol', same ol' :) Wendy

    1. Funny, we who live within a few hours of the Falls take them for granted don't we? Maybe I need an entire bookcase, or maybe I need to get rid of some stuff. Maybe both. ;) Have a great weekend Wendy!
