Insta-Friday in real life and a giveaway winner

Friday has rolled around again. Christmas is a distant memory. Two or three more months of winter to go. Not that I'm complaining...well, maybe a little.

Here, cell phone pics from the week...this week I'm showing you my Instagram photos. My son started an Instagram account this week, as did my husband. They aren't looking for followers. We basically just look at each other's photos. You can follow me @ziajojo if you like.

This week, I have been telling you about my plans to get more fruit and veggies into my kids. I put this platter out one day. Kind of cute, huh?

Moments later, this is what it looked like. Job done. Only I didn't get any. I'll have to make my own plate up next time.

On What I Ate Wednesday, I told you how I used frozen veggies to increase my own veggie consumption. Here they are sizzling up in my beloved cast iron pans. Aren't veggies just so naturally pretty?

This dude started talking about Morgan Freeman one day. What? Then he asked me to watch Born To Be Wild (a documentary about orangutans and elephants) on Netflix. Now I understand. He had watched it before and heard Morgan Freeman narrating. That man does indeed have a distinctive (and lovely) voice.

Yesterday, I showed you my kitchen organization. Today, the kids have already begun to take over the counter again. Hey, what exactly is that silly bandz shape on the upper right?

Lest you think I'm trying to pass myself off as some kind of Martha Stewart, I'm going to come clean and show you the other side of my kitchen. Yes, the Christmas tree is still up. I'd like to say it's because I love it so much (and I do) but really it's because we didn't feel like taking it down last weekend. I spent three hours cleaning my son's room and that was my tidying limit.

Next up on my organizing list: the dining room. The table is collecting crap again. I'm not sure how that happens. It has some kind of magnetic force that pulls things in. At least this will be a quick fix.

Have a wonderful weekend! I'll be taking down the tree.

    1. Thank you!

We got the hutch at an auction many years ago and it's one of my favourite pieces of furniture. I like pops of colour too.

  2. The fruit looked delicious! Weirdly, I have the same glass plate, mine has a beat up tin dome cover for it. I used to hate putting the Christmas stuff away, but now that the rest of my family doesn't seem to care about it, it's my New Year's day tradition to pack it all away. It feels good to clean up the house just before we all go back to work/school. Looking forward to your dining room tidy! The lighting is so nice in that shot. Wendy

    1. Thanks Wendy!

A tin dome cover sounds interesting.

This is the latest we have ever packed up Christmas stuff. We always do it before school starts up again. Oh well!

  4. We still have the little's trees up in their rooms. And really? The tree would probably still be up in the family room, but it was soooo dry, I was afraid it would spontaneously combust. Your fruit tray is lovely, and I'm trying to keep up with more veggies and fruit for the family in the new year, too :)

    1. Thanks Ruthie. I feel much better now. Still, I think the tree will have to go tomorrow. ;)

We are doing well with the fruit and veg thing...but it is only Jan 11. Here's hoping we continue...:)

  5. I cut up a 'monkey platter' of fruit now and then, you reminded me I should get back in to it. Had to laugh at your kitchen table collecting crap as mine is in this state all the time and right now there's no free space on it, so I best go clean it so we have room to eat...

    1. I have never heard of a "monkey platter" but it sounds fun when you put it that way!

Yes, I often have to push things aside so we can eat at the table. I hate to look at a mess while I'm eating though!

  6. That looks so many kinds of delicious! Having your tree up is completely acceptable {& festive}. Ours is down only because I knew I was going to have to start working & then it would never get done lol. And congratulations to Kim!!

    1. Thanks for your support Tabetha. :) I guess it's going to have to come down eventually. If it were a fake tree, I might just move it to the basement, fully dressed. ;)

  7. I actually just scared the dog by LOL'ing on the silly band. Heh!

I *just* got all the Christmas decor put away today, but the tree still stands. It's empty, but I hate getting all scratched, so I'm waiting for hubby to take it down this weekend.

Also, we saw Born to be Wild at the Imax last year and really enjoyed it. Did you watch? Isn't it amazing to think of people living their entire lives to help animals?

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Oh Julee, sorry your doggie got scared, but what kind of a silly band is that? ;)

We dragged the tree out of here today! Yay!

I sort of watched Born To Be Wild with him. I think I was a little distracted. Yes, it is amazing. I want that exact kind of job living with animals whenever I see someone doing it. So cool!
