Insta-Friday...pre-Christmas edition
It's Friday. And we're alive. I don't pay too much attention to end-of-the-world stuff, but I'm happy it wasn't true. You know what's bad? When people are disappointed that it's not the end of the world, because now they have to finish the stuff on their holiday to-do lists. I ran into a neighbour while walking the dog this morning and that's how she felt. She's kidding, of course, but it just goes to show you the stress that Christmas expectations can cause.
On to Insta-Friday, now, and sharing simple cell phone photos from our week. I bought myself an early Christmas present. These two owl mugs. They were like five bucks for both at Winners. Unfortunately, I broke the handle off my favourite owl mug. I dropped a bowl on it. It's now on my husband's work bench with the many other odds and ends requiring repair. So, for the next couple of weeks, I'm using these puppies. Not that the mug will be fixed in a couple of weeks...it's just that these mugs are for Christmas and I figure I gotta stop using them some time in January.
By the way, while I'm at my computer, I'm listening to the "80's Alternative" station on Jango.com. Can't help swaying when I hear Soft Cell's "Where Did Our Love Go?" What's your favourite eighties song? Were you into Depeche Mode like me or Ozzy Osbourne like my husband? Or, was it all about Bon Jovi for you? Did you have the hair style to match? Come on, admit it.
This is a part of my book shelves. Exciting, right? Well, I have to show you only a piece, because I'm not done organizing it yet. I spent all day Sunday organizing my office...again.
I showed you my daughter's wee snow man the other day. Here she is making him. We haven't had snow since, until today. It's still pretty light though. There's something amiss with the environment.
My parents have arrived to stay with us for Christmas. We are all happy, but it seems Jolene the beagle mix is happiest of all. My dad was only in the door a few minutes when this happened. She loves older people, because they sit with her. Imagine sitting still for a bit? What must that be like? My kids make sure that never happens.
This guy deserves to sit for a bit. He is undergoing chemo at the moment, but he's doing great for a senior kind of guy. And Jolene's giving him some extra love.
Mom's here and she shares my food obsession. Day one of her visit. Kids at school. Us at all-you-can-eat sushi for lunch. Crispy rolls, veggie green dragon rolls and tempura banana maki. Yum! We were sleepy afterward.
And parents mean...free babysitting! Movie tonight, art show tomorrow, some final Christmas shopping. It's all good when you can walk out the door kid-free. Have a fantastic weekend and a wonderful Christmas!

I have an owl obsession so these mugs are amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou and me both sister! :)
DeleteI love the owl mugs- and I would rock them anytime of year :) just like my snowman mug- its one of my favorites because its tall- you could too!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely consider that Jodi! ;)
DeleteJolene looks so content!
ReplyDeleteShe does indeed. We are happy because when she came to us she wasn't so cuddly with people. It took her a while to bond.
DeleteOh, my gosh! Enjoy your dates while your parents are there!
ReplyDeleteJolene just knew your pops wasn't feeling the best - what a good dog. I love that picture. I am thinking good, healthy thoughts for him.
Me in the eighties? Ugh! Debbie Gibson, my friend. My room was so plastered with her face that my older brother still refers to it as 'disturbing.'
Merry Christmas!
We had our first date tonight. Went to see "This is 40." Similar to our lives, except we don't have California sunshine and lots of money. ;)
DeleteYou're right. Jolene probably does know. :) Thanks for your kind thoughts.
Debbie Gibson, my friend? I don't quite know what to say. ;)
Merry Christmas to you too!
Sorry to hear your dad has health concerns, Jolene looks like she's doing a pretty good job there! Enjoy your nights out :)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Jolene is a good little friend.
DeleteWe are enjoying the babysitting for sure! :)
I love when H's parent's come to town. It is SO great!!
ReplyDeleteWhat did I listen to in the 80's? I guess whatever my parents listened to which was a lot of Def Leppard and other Hair bands. I really have only started appreciating other 80's music recently :)
It is a treat having help with the kiddos, isn't it?
DeleteOh Laurie, you are making me feel old. You listened to what your parents liked in the eighties?
Just kidding. I actually listened to a lot of seventies music too, because that's what my older brother listened to. And he never gave us any choice in the matter.
Lucky Jolene and all of you for having a nice family visit. My dad just underwent cancer treatments this year too, so I am thrilled that he and my mom will be coming to our place for Christmas. Makes you really appreciate having them with you, when someone gets sick.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a great time Jo.
Have a great Christmas with your family! I am glad your dad is well enough to visit. You are right...you re-visit your priorities when someone has been ill. :)
DeleteJolene has a charmed life.
ReplyDeleteIn the eighties I still listened to the Jackson's and many other classic soul singers from the 70's.
That's good stuff too. Love the Jackson 5!
DeleteLooks like a fun week, I do hope your dad is doing well. Enjoy your kid free escapades!
ReplyDeleteWe are having a good time for sure! Thanks for the kind wishes!
