What I Ate Wednesday, with a greenish smoothie

Happy What I Ate Wednesday! So far I haven't made any Christmas cookies. If I had, I would be forced to show you lots of photos of all the cookies I nibbled on while I was baking. That's still to come.

In the meantime, a look at some of the stuff I ate this week.

I like my smoothies to be a little (or a lot) sweet. So, rather than going totally green, I added a bit of veg and a lot of fruit to my breakfast smoothie today. The result is this delicious yet healthy green-ish smoothie.

It's actually kind of yellow, but a yellow smoothie sounds kind of disgusting, don't ya think? Recipe follows. Give her a try and let me know how it goes!

By the way, after I took this picture, I spilled my smoothie all over the paper, the table, the wicker chair next to the table and the floor. Lots of fun. That's how I roll.

On Friday, I showed you this little fruit platter I made for my kids' after-school snack. Got them to eat their fruit by prettying it up a bit. More good news...when I'm cutting up fruit for them, I actually nibble on it myself!

I also showed you the Sol Cuisine mushroom and rice veggie burger I had for lunch one day. I topped it with salsa in lieu of having a bun. I'm still trying to cut back on wheat. I also had some frozen veggies, sauteed and seasoned with garlic powder and Bragg's Liquid Aminos (similar to soy sauce but healthier).

For my husband's birthday, we ordered Chinese food from our favourite local Chinese restaurant. I have tried ordering rice noodles from them to avoid wheat, but there's nothing quite like this veggie lo mein, so I indulged. The middle dish is tofu in garlic sauce. So delicious. And fried rice, of course. Notice it isn't dark brown? I cannot stand when the rice is drowned in soy sauce (and MSG). Notice the wee can of San Pellegrino Limonata at the bottom right? That was another little treat for my husband's birthday.

Yesterday,  I finally did some Christmas shopping. I stopped at the health food store to get my son some Emergen-C because he has a little cold. I was hungry and I had a bit of a headache, so I bought a gluten-free snack bar and a Kombucha drink. The snack bar was tasty, but it was so hard to chew that it made my jaw hurt. The Kombucha was a lovely lemongrass flavour. It is supposed to enhance your energy and your digestion, so I thought it might help with the headache. My headache did actually go away, but I'm not sure if that was from the drink or the buzz of shopping.

What's your favourite snack on the run?

    1. The pumpkin seed protein is less expensive than some others and a health expert that visited our local health food store said it is a good protein. It is a bit bitter but the fruit hides that! ;) I have only had Kombucha a couple of times, but I will definitely have it again.

  2. I love a kombucha (any time of the day really) but when I am running around is probably my favorite time to indulge.
I have never heard of pumpkin seed protein...but I am completely intrigued.

I hope you were able to finish your shopping for Christmas you only have 6 days left Jo :)

    Have a fantastic Wednesday!

    1. Hi Rachel,

I wonder if you can buy Kombucha in a case? I think I paid $3.69 for one bottle. Some kind of discount would be good. ;)

I still have a bit of shopping to do. I will get done, not to worry. Not so sure about all the organizing and cleaning I wanted to do before Christmas though. ;)

      Have a great day. Jo

  4. Your smoothie sounds yummy! When you stop to think about it, green smoothie doesn't sound all that appetizing either, I guess we just got used to hearing it. :) The oj and clementine are great additions. I'm impressed you haven't indulged in Cmas cookies yet... way to go!

    1. That's true Laura, green smoothie doesn't sound so good. The clementine gives a nice flavour. The only reason I haven't eaten cookies is because I haven't had a chance to make them. ;)
